Marionette lines

What are marionette lines?

Marionette lines are the lines that start from the corners of the mouth, and run downwards towards the jaw. They get their name from the marionette puppets, as the lines from under the mouth down to the chin resemble that of the mouth of a puppet — not the most flattering look! They can worsen with ageing, weight loss, and sun exposure, which can leave you looking sad, unhappy, tired or angry all the time. Filler helps to restore the lost volume to give you a happier appearance.
Doctor Alex performs this dermal filler treatment in both his Manchester City Centre and Sheffield clinics.

How does dermal filler (Juvederm) help?

Marionette lines form due to loss of facial volume in the lower face. With ageing, this volume depletes, and deeper creases start to form below the mouth. Dermal filler for marionette lines can help to restore this lost volume and stimulate your own collagen production, reducing the appearance of those lower facial lines and folds around the mouth and leaving you looking refreshed and happier!

When will I see the effects?

Rejuvenation results from dermal filler in the crease lines from the mouth to the nose are seen instantly! There may be a slightly "fuller" appearance immediately after injection of the filler due to natural swelling, which resolves after a few days.

How long does the marionette filler treatment last for?

Filler in the lower mouth folds region can last 6 to 18 months. The dermal filler Doctor Alex uses (Juvederm) is a non-permanent treatment, and can also be reversed/dissolved if needed.

Is it painful?

No. You may feel a pinprick sensation as the skin near your mouth is injected. Doctor Alex can apply special numbing cream beforehand if you are worried about this. An advanced micro-cannula technique can also be used to help minimise any discomfort.

How long is recovery time?

More or less immediate recovery — it can be performed in your lunch break! As a needle is used to inject dermal filler into the marionette lines, there is a chance you may get a small amount of bleeding/bruising, which usually resolves after a few days. Doctor Alex can also use special micro-cannulas to inject the filler, which can also reduce the risk of bruising.
