What are Lip lines/smoker's lines?

Despite the name, these vertical lip lines are not always caused by smoking, but can also be due to repetitive lip pursing and movement. They are often more visible when lipstick "bleeds" into these lines. Filler into these wrinkles can help reduce their appearance. Filler can also be combined with botox to help maximise reduction.

How does dermal filler (Juvederm) help?

Lip lines appear as indentations/creases (particularly on the upper lip), which can make you look older than you actually are. Dermal filler restores volume to these "smoker's lines" to help flatten them out, reducing the shadows that make these lip lines more noticable. Lip line filler can be combined with Botox, which helps to reduce the strength of the muscles that contribute towards making these lines visible when moving your mouth.

When will I see the effects?

Rejuvenation results from dermal filler in the lip lines are seen instantly! There may be a slightly "fuller" appearance immediately after injection of the filler due to natural swelling, which resolves after a few days.

How long does smoker's line filler treatment last for?

Filler in the lipstick line region can last 6 to 12 months. When lip line filler treatment is combined with Botox, the filler may last a little longer.

Is it painful?

You may feel a pinprick sensation as the skin over the lip area is injected. Doctor Alex can also apply special numbing cream beforehand if you are worried about this.

How long is recovery time?

More or less immediate recovery — it can be performed in your lunch break! As a needle is used to inject dermal filler into the lip line region, there is a chance you may get a small amount of bleeding/bruising, which usually resolves after a few days.
